Anime & manga

Anime is animation originating from Japan, and in English the word refers specifically to animation produced in Japan. It is a diverse medium with distinctive production methods, historically and predominantly hand-drawn, combining graphic art, characterization, and cinematography, and compared to Western animation it generally focuses less on movement and more on the detail of settings and camera effects. The medium has seen widespread international success since the 1980s through dubbed and subtitled programming, and since the 2010s through streaming services and a widening demographic embrace of anime culture worldwide.
